On December 15th, the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame will honor those who have fostered the proud legacy of Oklahoma jazz, blues and gospel at our black-tie Induction Gala. In 2012, the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame celebrates our twenty-fourth year honoring the preservation, education and performance of jazz—our uniquely American art form. The 2012 Induction Gala commemorates this anniversary while also recognizing and inducting musical icons into the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame. Legendary guitarist John Paul “Bucky” Pizzarelli will be receiving the Jay McSchann Lifetime Achievement Award; fellow 2012 inductees include pianist George L. Dennie, big band arranger and drummer Joe Wright, jazz drummer “Sunny” Murray, bandleader Hart Wand, the Fisk Jubilee Singers, trombonist David Gibson, vocalist and pianist Justin Echols, and high school music director Cornelius Earl Pittman. Councilor Jack Henderson and educator Deborah Brown will also be presented with Community Spirit Awards.
Located in the Performance Hall of the historic Jazz Depot in downtown Tulsa—111 East First Street, the night begins with a 6:00 p.m. reception, followed by dinner at 7:00. The awards ceremony is slated to begin at 7:45. Tickets are priced at $100, with table sponsorship available for purchase. Pleaes call Bettie Downing at 918.281.8609 to make your reservation.
