The Oklahoma City/County Historical Society will celebrate music legend, Charlie Christian’s 100th birthday on Friday, July 29th at 7:00 p.m. at the Hart Building, 726 W. Sheridan Ave. in downtown Oklahoma City. The free event is open to the public.
Highlights of the evening will include a dynamic presentation by author and historian, Anita Arnold and Arizona resident Freddye Jenkins, Charlie Christian’s only living relative, a direct descendant of Christian’s family. They will be joined by Dr. Wayne Goins and Attorney Craig McKinney from Kansas. Goins and McKinney are co-authors of the book, “A Biography: Charlie Christian, Jazz Guitar’s King of Swing. Other special moments in the evening are the launching of the Charlie Christian Centennial Collector’s Coffee Table Book published by Communications Plus and viewing of several one-of-a-kind historical items displayed for the first time.
The audience will sample music played by Charlie Christian during his hey-day. Special moments will be recorded and archived by the Oklahoma City/County Historical Society. Seating is limited.
